What is Gen-D?
The “Gen-D – Nurturing a Digital Future” program, implemented by Propulsion powered by Microsoft, is a multi-country program with the goal of contributing to the digital transformation in education. In the initial phase, the five countries will actively participate in the program – Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia and Serbia.
The cooperation within the program will represent a resource for teaching and learning informatics
By observing the rapid trend of digitalization and automatization, Microsoft anticipates that within the next two decades 90% of the jobs will require some level of digital proficiency. Such a future further accentuates the importance of preemptive investing in digital skills of young people in order to narrow the expected income gap between those who possess such skills and those who do not.
By visiting our platform, you will soon find all the materials created in Serbia by the Loop Foundation (Petlja Foundation) in English, that will further be adapted and available in local languages to the students of each participating country of the program (Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Bulgaria and Serbia). Our program partners will work on the localization of the offered materials in an innovative approach to support and improve educational standards.
We partner globally with nonprofits, governments, educators, and businesses to make computer science education more accessible.
Microsoft Philanthropies Digital Skills opportunity, approach and impact
Microsoft is committed to helping close the opportunity gap for young people. Learning digital skills allows youth to create, innovate, and thrive not only in STEM careers but also across all sectors.
From basic digital literacy to advanced computer science, digital skills are often out of reach for the young people who need them most. In a world being transformed by technology, all youth should have the opportunity to develop creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills gained by learning computer science.
We work with nonprofits, educators, governments, and businesses to increase economic opportunity for underserved youth around the world.
This way, we strive towards:
- Strengthening the ability of nonprofit organizations and schools to offer computer science education,
- Bringing CS to every young person,
- Generating excitement and demand for computer science education.
Making computer science education more accessible can help ensure young people are equipped for the future. Limited access to digital skills threatens to widen the income gap between those who have the skills to succeed in the 21st century and those who do not. To reduce the gap, all young people need the opportunity to learn computer science, especially those least likely to have access.
